What the score is made of

  • Average Google rating, 45 points. What customers actually scored.
  • Number of reviews, 30 points, on a logarithmic scale, so that a five with two opinions does not overtake a 4.8 with five hundred.
  • Having a website of its own, 15 points. A social media page is not a website.
  • A published telephone number, 10 points.

The last two factors only count when that check has been made across an entire trade, so that nobody is compared against a business measured on more data than they were.

What it does not measure

Quality. It measures the public trace a business leaves, which is a different thing and worth saying plainly. A superb kitchen with nobody writing about it will sit lower than a good one that people talk about, and no formula fixes that.

Why publish it at all

Because it is the same information every visitor is already looking at, scattered across a hundred listings, gathered in one place with the arithmetic shown. If a business thinks its position is wrong, the breakdown says exactly which factor it is losing on, which is more useful than a badge. Every figure carries the date it was verified.
