Where to stay

The town is small, so the choice is manageable. There are five hotels, a handful of hostels and guesthouses, one campsite and a large stock of holiday apartments.

What suits which trip

• Hotels for short stays and for anyone who wants the beach at the door. The largest sits on the western promenade, in the front line.
• Holiday apartments for families and for stays of a week or more, where a kitchen and a terrace start to pay for themselves.
• Hostels and guesthouses for one or two nights on a budget, all central.
• The campsite, 50 metres from the sea, with pitches under trees and bungalows. It is the most reviewed place to stay in town.

If you rent an apartment, check the registration code

This matters and few visitors know it. In Andalusia every property let to tourists must be registered with the regional tourism registry and must publish its registration code in the advert. If a listing does not show one, it is not compliant, and you have no protection if the booking falls through.

The same regulation sets a minimum standard the property must meet, including cooling or heating depending on the season, a first aid kit, a smoke detector and a kitchen with at least two rings, an oven or microwave and a fridge. If what you find on arrival is short of that, you have grounds to complain.

When to book early

August, the town fair in late July and the Weekend Beach Festival. With only five hotels for the whole town, rooms go before they do in bigger resorts.
