For a town of this size the choice is wide, and it splits between the sea and everything else.

On land

• Gyms. Eight in town, from one large chain with long opening hours to small functional training boxes with very loyal followings.
• Yoga and pilates. Seven studios, and the highest average customer rating of any trade in the directory.
• Padel. One club inside the town, on Calle los Fenicios, plus municipal courts by the promenade. The bigger clubs are in Vélez-Málaga.
• The municipal pool, indoor and open all year, with free swimming and courses. It is the cheapest way to train here.

On the water

The sailing club sits on the promenade and its building is listed as an asset of cultural interest. Moorings, though, are at the marina in Caleta de Vélez, about three kilometres east, which is the only marina on this stretch of coast.

And the free option

The promenade itself. Flat, several kilometres long and busy with runners and cyclists at every hour. In summer, go early or late.
