Agent and broker are not the same job

This is the distinction worth understanding before walking in. An agente represents one company and sells that company's policies. A corredor or correduría is an independent broker who compares several companies and is legally obliged to advise you objectively. Both are legitimate and both are here. Which you want depends on whether you already know the company you trust.

What matters if you own a flat here

• The building already has a policy, and it does not cover your flat. The community of owners insures the building and the common areas. What is inside your door is yours to insure.
• Water damage between flats is the most common claim in Spanish apartment blocks, and the one where the two policies meet. Knowing which covers what before it happens saves a long argument.
• If the flat is empty for months, say so. Long unoccupancy is a condition that affects cover and it is better declared than discovered.

Car cover

Third party insurance is compulsory for any vehicle in Spain, and it is the minimum, not the norm. Anything beyond it is a commercial decision, and the excess is the figure to compare rather than the headline premium.
