Street market

The open-air market is on Thursday mornings, and it takes over the area around Plaza de la Paz and Avenida Duque de Ahumada with more than 200 stalls. It changes the rhythm of the whole town for half a day.

What is sold

Mostly fruit and vegetables from the Axarquía, along with clothes, shoes and household goods. It is a working market for local people, not a tourist attraction, which is exactly what makes it worth seeing.

Three practical notes

• Go early. The best produce goes in the first hours.
• Bring cash. A good number of stalls do not take cards.
• Do not count on parking nearby. The market occupies exactly the area where people park during the week. Walking saves you the loop around the neighbourhood.

For fresh produce on other days, the covered municipal market in Calle del Río opens Monday to Saturday.
