Food market

The municipal food market is in Calle del Río, in the centre, and it opens Monday to Saturday in the mornings. This is the fresh produce of the town: fish landed locally, meat, fruit and vegetables, sold across a counter by the person who sells it.

Do not confuse it with the street market

They are two different things. The street market is open-air, Thursday only, and in another part of town. The food market is covered, fixed and open almost every day.

Two practical notes

• Fish is chosen first thing. That is when the day's catch arrives and the stall still has the full range, and in a coastal town that shows.
• It covers what the supermarket does not. Specific cuts, exact quantities and advice from whoever is selling. For the big weekly shop, the supermarkets on the avenue are still the answer.
