Restaurante Bar Negri

Bar Negri has the terrace almost everyone ends up walking past, on the Paseo de Larios, the pedestrian street that runs from the centre down to the water. With more than three thousand reviews it is one of the busiest tables in the town.

What the house is asked for most is prawns off the plancha, and around them the fish of the day and the fried platters. The cooking is direct, meant for sharing, and it is served in the middle of the evening promenade rather than tucked away, which is a large part of the appeal.

Practical points I would want to know as a visitor: it closes on Mondays, it serves at midday and again at night on the Spanish timetable, and in high season the terrace fills from nine in the evening. Come at eight if you want the outside table without waiting, or accept the wait and treat it as part of the street.
