Marisqueria El Yate

El Yate was opened in 1994 by Rafael and Josefa and is now run by the next generation of the family. It stands on Calle Saladero Viejo, a couple of streets back from the seafront, and it collects more reviews than any other seafood house in the town.

Two kitchens work side by side here. One is the seafood counter, with shellfish and whatever the boats brought in. The other is the grill, which takes both fish and meat, and that combination is the reason I send mixed groups to this address. When half the table wants prawns and the other half wants a steak, this is the place in Torre del Mar that solves it without either half settling.

It is a sit down restaurant rather than a beach bar, so plan a proper meal and reserve at weekends. Being off the promenade also means it stays open and full outside the beach season, which is not true of everything by the sand. Confirm the weekly closing day when you book.
