Bar Los Pescadores

Los Pescadores is the kind of place that ends up in a visitor's notes for the wrong reason: they walked past it, thought it looked too plain, and only found out later that it is one of the best rated fish bars on the Levante promenade.

What it does is fried fish and shellfish from the coast of the Axarquia, served simply, at a bar, in front of the beach. No terrace theatre, no cocktail list. It fills at lunchtime with people who live here, which in my experience is the single most useful thing you can observe about a restaurant in a beach town.

The catch is the timetable. It serves the midday sitting only, Tuesday to Sunday, and closes on Mondays. Get there at half past one rather than three. If you have never ordered a fritura, ask for a mixed plate and let them choose what came in.
