Where to eat
The directory documents around sixty places to eat in Torre del Mar. They divide cleanly by where they are, and that division is the most useful thing to know.
The geography of eating here
- The beach. The chiringuitos along the promenade do grilled fish and the espeto, which is what the town is known for.
- The centre. The marisquerías serve seafood at a table, by weight, and the tapas bars are here too.
- The avenue and Calle del Mar. Pizza, Asian food, burgers and the international kitchens, plus most of what delivers.
The timetable is the thing that catches everyone
Lunch runs from around two and dinner from around nine. A restaurant that looks dead at seven in the evening will be full at ten, and many kitchens simply close between services. If you eat early, the beach bars are the safest bet, since they serve through the afternoon in season.
Two habits worth adopting
- Ask what came in today. On this coast the board matters more than the menu.
- Seafood is priced by weight. Ask what a portion will weigh before ordering, because the menu price is per kilo. Nobody minds the question.
