Sleeping cheaply

There are three ways to sleep cheaply in Torre del Mar, and one decision that saves more than all three put together.

The decision that matters most

When you come. Between August and October the same accommodation here can cost half. October on this coast still gives you sea you can swim in and a town that works normally, without the August prices or the August queues. If your dates are flexible at all, this is where the money is.

The three routes

• The two hostales in the town centre, which are the cheapest roofed option and are small, so they go early in season.
• The campsite, Laguna Playa, which is on the promenade itself rather than out of town. It is the only campsite in the town centre.
• Holiday flats, which are the largest part of the accommodation stock here by a distance. For a family or a stay of more than a few nights, this is usually the cheapest per person.

Two practical notes

• Check the distance to the beach in metres, not in adjectives. The town is small but the difference between the seafront and the far side of the avenue is real in August.
• Ask whether air conditioning is included in a holiday flat and whether it is metered. In July and August it is not a luxury.
