The air show

The air show is held over a weekend in early September, above the beach and the promenade of Torre del Mar. It draws the largest crowd of the year in the town, and it is free: the display happens over the sea and the whole seafront is the grandstand.

What to expect

Aerobatic teams and aircraft flying low along the coast, watched from the sand. The beach fills from the morning even though the flying is in the afternoon, because people come early to claim a spot.

Practical, and this matters more than usual

• Come by public transport or come very early. Parking in Torre del Mar on that day is genuinely difficult, and the access roads slow to a crawl.
• Any point on the promenade works. The display is over the water, so you do not need to be at a particular spot, and the far ends are far less crowded.
• Bring shade and water. September on this coast is still summer and there is no shelter on the sand.
• Accommodation sells out for that weekend. Book months ahead or come for the day.
