Town hall

# Public services

Torre del Mar is a district of the municipality of **Vélez-Málaga**, so it has no town hall of its own. What it does have is a **district office**, the _Tenencia de Alcaldía_, housed in the Casa de Larios, and that covers most of what a resident needs.

## What you can do here

- **Padrón**, the municipal register. This is the key document: schooling, the health centre and municipal discounts all depend on it, so it is the first thing to sort out after moving.
- Land registry queries, municipal tax payments and civil weddings.

Anything handled by centralised departments still means a trip to Vélez-Málaga, so it is worth confirming before you travel.

## Police

Worth clearing up a common confusion: the **national police station** for the whole municipality **is in Torre del Mar**, in Calle Puerta del Mar, not in Vélez-Málaga. That is where you report a crime and where the national identity document and passport are issued, both by appointment. For emergencies, **112**.

## Library

The municipal library is on Avenida Duque de Ahumada, with lending, a study room and press. The regional library card works across the whole of Andalusia.
