## The keyboard, and why it matters more than you think

A computer bought in Spain comes with a Spanish keyboard, which has the ñ where you expect the apostrophe and puts several symbols somewhere else entirely. If you type for a living, that is not a detail, it is a month of small daily irritation.

So if you are here long term, decide deliberately: buy locally and accept the layout, which is what most people who settle here end up doing, or bring your own machine and use a local shop for repairs and parts. What you should not do is buy a laptop in a hurry on your second day and discover the layout on the third. Ask before you pay, and ask whether they can source a machine with the layout you want.
